Harriet Patton Lipe, age 96, of Mooresville, NC earned her angel wings on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
Harriet was an active member of Prospect Presbyterian Church in Mooresville where she was a church elder, a life member of the Women of the Church, a Sunday school substitute teacher, a member of the ACTS circle and a member of the Homebuilders Sunday School class. Harriet also felt very fortunate to have represented the Concord Presbytery during trips to Taiwan and South Korea.
She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and a Charter Member and former treasurer of the Mooresville Centerpiece Quilters Guild.
Harriet grew up in Morganton, NC and spent a portion of adulthood in Lenoir, NC. She attended Burke County and Morganton, NC schools, Mitchell College in Statesville, NC and Appalachian State Teachers College & Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She held numerous degrees and certifications including a master’s degree. Her degrees and certifications were in Business, Mathematics, Counseling and Driver’s Education. She worked many years as a teacher, guidance counselor and retired as the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation in Caldwell County, NC.
Harriet loved to sew and quilt. Her creations won numerous awards and continue to be treasured by those fortunate enough to have received one. Another passion was her flower garden - especially her roses. She will also be fondly remembered for her infamous coconut cake that was often imitated but never duplicated.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Clarence Lipe, parents, L. G. (Elgie) and Mamie (Mary Martha London) Patton and brothers, James W. Patton and Robert L. Patton.
Survivors include her sons, Dan Lipe of Winston-Salem, NC, Ron (Helene) Lipe of Columbia, SC, grandchildren Emily Coyazo of Huntersville, NC, Olivia Lipe of Richmond, VA, Catherine (Sylvain) Lipe-Masson of Brooklyn, NY, Robert (Anna) Lipe of Columbia, SC and one great-granddaughter, Eleanor Ruth Lipe. Other surviving family members include nieces and nephews, Priscilla (William J.) Schoenen of Morganton, NC, Carada (John David) Hood of Morganton, NC, Bobby G. (Mabel) Patton of Morganton, NC, Roger (Pansy) Patton of Morganton, NC, Ben (Sue) Patton of Morganton, NC, David (Maxine) Patton of Morganton, NC and many great nieces and nephews.
